Bran is the outer layer of the wheat kernel left after milling. It's rich in vegetable protein and dietary fiber and is commonly used for animal feed production. The protein content of bran, which can range from 15% to 20%, is an important indicator of its quality for feed manufacturers. The Kjeldahl nitrogen analyzer is a reliable method for accurately measuring protein content in bran. By using this method, feed manufacturers can ensure their bran-based feed meets the required protein standards, providing high-quality feed for animals.
Method for Determining Protein Content in Bran by Kjeldahl Nitrogen Analyzer
1.1. Sample Preparation
Weigh 0.5 g (accurate to 0.1 mg) of the pulverized and mixed sample into the digestion tube, then add 3.2 g of the mixed catalyst, and add 14 mL of concentrated sulfuric acid along the wall of the digestion tube.
1.2. Digestion
Place the digestion tube filled with samples and reagents on the digestion instrument, cover the waste discharge cover, and set the parameters of the digestion instrument as shown in Table 1:
1.3. Test
After the digestion is complete, the digestion tube is cooled to room temperature and then removed for use. Check whether the reagents of the azotometer are sufficient, and make an instrument blank at the same time. After the instrument blank is stable, the digested sample can be tested on the machine. The parameters of the azotometer are set as shown in Table 2:
2. Results and discussion
2.1. Experimental results
The rice bran samples selected in the experiment were digested, distilled, and titrated, and the experimental results are shown in Table 3:
2.2. Conclusion
The protein content of the bran sample tested in this test is 17.173%, and the RSD value is 0.34%, and the results have good parallelism.
