Commonly used Chinese herbal medicines processed by freeze-drying method include ginseng, antler velvet, deer whip, Cordyceps sinensis, Chinese yam, Ganoderma lucidum, and Dihuang. In recent years, the freeze-drying method has been used to process proprietary Chinese medicines, in which the prepared proprietary Chinese medicines are impregnated, extracted, filtered, concentrated, freeze-dried and then made into powders, tablets or injections, which solves the problem of slow effect of taking tonics and traditional Chinese medicines to treat acute diseases.

4. Application in western pharmaceutical preparations

Because the cells of organisms are not destroyed when freeze-drying, the organisms after freeze-drying are still preserved like the original that has vitality, and if rehydrated, the organisms can be resurrected again. Such as freeze-dried bones, bone tissue can be kept in a solid state, protein denaturation is minimal, and maintain enzyme activity. It can be stored at room temperature or 4℃ for up to 2 years. It has been clinically proven that reimplantation of freeze-dried bone can be restored to normal bone physiological properties with good results.
